Description:

Brief

The house to be replaced was the client’s family home from childhood. Original features and the essence of the house were to be kept for sentimental reasons, on a larger scale house.

Challenges

From the front of the property, the site slopes away quite steeply to the rear.

Goals

There are stunning panoramic views to the rear, which is also south facing, both were to be enjoyed.

Unique Solution

To follow the contours, a large linear form stretched across the site. Glass balconies and ample glazing to the rear gave wonderful views to the horizon. A piled foundation solution had to be used to prevent the building slipping down the slope.

Sustainability

Thermal mass and very high levels of insulation were used. The building naturally warms up from the expanse of south facing glazing.
