Brief
The Ground floor and Lower Ground floor were to be completely remodelled and extended.
Challenges
The original Lower ground floor layout had rooms within rooms, within rooms, which was impractical to use and was a fire hazard. The proposals required approval also from The Dulwich Management Estate.
Goals
The circulation and safety of the Lower ground floor had to be resolved, also to allow more light to enter.
Unique Solution
A new hallway was created at the bottom of the stairs to the Lower ground floor, which connected the rooms. Larger openings were formed over both floors to let more light into the deep floor plans.
Sustainability
Increased thermal insulation and the use of double glazed sash windows which looked like the original single glazed sash windows were used.
